The envelope was from a woman named Margaret, addressed to the same woman whose name was written across the box. It wasn’t a bill or some legal notice. It was a goodbye. The letters told the story of two sisters who had spent most of their lives taking care of each other. One had gotten sick, and the other had promised she would always be there. But life happened. Moves. Jobs. Hurt feelings that started small and somehow stretched into years. The unopened envelopes were letter after letter from the sister who stayed behind, each one hoping for an answer that never came. Some were cheerful. Some were worried.
