Im 62 And Run A Front Desk

The deputy said the truck had already been sold two counties over for $4,800 cash. Dean apparently used a fake notarized title transfer with my forged signature and told the buyer I was his older sister helping him liquidate “family property” after my husband died.

I kept telling the deputy the truck was parked behind the motel three nights earlier.

That’s when he asked me to step outside.

The truck was gone.

Dean was too.

I honestly felt stupid standing there in my motel uniform staring at the empty gravel spot behind the ice machine. My husband bought that Ford brand new in 2004. He used to wash it every Sunday morning whether it needed it or not.

The deputy asked if Dean had access to my documents. I immediately thought about the filing cabinet in my bedroom closet where I kept insurance papers and the vehicle title folder. I’d never even considered locking it because who locks paperwork away from their own brother?

After the deputy left, I went back inside my apartment and realized half my checkbooks were missing too.

Dean called around midnight from a blocked number acting angry at me somehow. Said I “embarrassed him” by talking to law enforcement and claimed he only sold the truck because he needed money to pay off “dangerous people.” Then he said he planned to return part of the money eventually like that fixed anything.

I hung up after that.

Two days later the motel owner pulled me aside because somebody had charged over $2,000 worth of tools to the motel business account using a fake contractor order under my name.

Turns out Dean had been using the motel address for months on loan applications and equipment rentals.

The sheriff finally found him sleeping in that stolen Ford behind a closed gas station outside Gallup, New Mexico.

According to the arrest report, my husband’s fishing poles were still in the truck bed beside three unopened toolboxes from Northern Arizona Supply dated April 14.
